How To Swing A Baseball Bat Like A Pro

Last updated on March 5, 2018 By Adam Nolan Leave a Comment

Believe it or not, it is completely possible to swing like a pro – and you don’t even need the best youth baseball bat on the market to do it. Every pro started as an amateur and had to build themselves into the major hitter that they are today. You can do the same if you are willing to work hard and take the steps needed to perfect your person style and skill. That may sound over simplified, but the truth of the matter is that letting go of overthinking can be the biggest key to making that step toward hitting on a big league level.

Every single batter in the history of baseball has had their own swing. There is no way to perfectly duplicate how another person’s body moves through a swing. You just can’t and trying to do that will only put you further away from your goal. You need to strip down instruction you have received over the years and focus on learning how your body moves. Swing again and again. Over and over to build muscle memory of how your body moves through a swing. Really feel how you are progressing through each step. This is going to build the foundation upon which to construct your perfect swing.

As you begin trusting your body and how it moves you will begin to gain confidence. With this improvement in how you perceive your own ability you can give yourself more freedom to improve on what your body is naturally trying to do. You can more constructively look at your own movement and see what needs to be perfected or reconstructed without being stressed. With this confidence, you can approach a pitch like a professional would. You can be cool and collected. You can approach it knowing how your body will react to each pitch as it comes flying to you and that you can do this.

This subtraction of self-doubt ensures that your mindset is where it should be to become the best hitter you can be. Without overthinking the movements you need to make, you can just make them naturally. Nothing will be forced. Your body can take over and do what it is meant to do. When you overthink, you can hesitate or overcompensate too easily. It takes away your body’s ability to just do its thing. Save the brain power for timing and rhythm. You will need to concentrate on that aspect and trying to do that alongside overthinking natural movement will be too much. It will trip you up and create a swing far below what you are capable of.

Combine all these things and you have the perfect storm for building the swing that will make you as good as the guys in the big leagues. Understanding your body, having the confidence to trust it, and using the mindset to focus on what needs focus will build your best swing. Take these things with you in practice every day. Work every day. Never quit and push until you can’t anymore, then just push harder. Move like a pro. Trust like a pro. Think like a pro. Work like a pro. You’ll be amazed how much better your will be.
